Project Runway – Design Game

Not sure if you guys are aware of this, I know I wasn’t, but Project Runway has a Design game on their website. The game is called “The Design Challenge“. It allows you to create an outfit by picking a sillouette which you can then accessorize and colorize. It is fun. At least I think so ;).

I created three different looks. You should hop over there and try your hand at it. And if you have time, check out my designs and rate them for me:

1) Jeans, Shirt & Boots look

2) Pencil Skirt, Sweater & Boots look

3) Maxi Dress, Vest & Flip Flop look

Thanks

Oscar 2008 – The Good, Bad and Ugly – Part 2 Color – The Bad & Ugly

The 80th Oscar awards have come and gone. I’m here to tell you the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. In Part 1 I wrote about the dresses I liked. Color was big at this years Oscars. Red, black and Metallic. But some of the celebrities made some bad choices.

The Bad & Ugly

Red
There were aspects of Julie Christie look that I did like but the short red dress was not one of them. She designed this dress along with her stylist/costume designer Tanya Gill.

Black
There was nothing about Tilda Swinton look that I liked. She arrived on the red carpet in a black washed silk draped evening gown by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin that was just bland and unoriginal. It looked like a piece of fabric thrown over her. No sewing. Just thrown…..ugggghhhly

Another woman whose look I didn’t like was Daniel Day-Lewis’ wife Rebecca Miller. There was just too much going on with the lace skirt & sleeves was attached to a black velvet bodice held up by red fabric on the shoulders!…Just TOO much. I also thought the fit in the skirt was poor. It seemed to hug her midsection too much accentuating her tummy.

Sequins
The last faux pas were the ladies who wore sequins. In part 1, I wrote about the women who wore sequins whose look I loved. These women’s looks I did not like. Sequins are a hard thing to carry off. They should usually be used sparingly.Faye Dunaway in a gold sequin long sleeve scoopneck sheath gown by Pamela Roland was an example of using too many sequins.

Also not to my liking was Adrienne Frantz, best known as a Soap Opera Actress, gold sequin mermaid dress. While she may have looked like a female oscar, it was just TOO many sequins for me.

Nancy O’Dell’s dress while not as bad as the two ladies above still used a bland shade of silver with sequins on the front and on the high side slit. I just thought it looked tacky.

Just Bad

In the just bad category was Michael Moore’s date/wife/mother dress looked like a prom dress or a bad sorbet southern belle bridesmaid dress.

Thanks goodness Katherine Heigl didn’t have to wear this thing in the movie “27 Dresses.”

Some creative dress ideas to fill your Project Runway craving until the finale

Project Runway is almost over. So in my search for creative way to create dresses without using fabric I found some Balloon Dresses. I know I know you think TACKY but I think some of these are way cool. Do you think Rami, Christian or any of the other Runway contestants could do this? And what kind of designs would they create if they did? Enjoy:

More cool Balloon Pictures can be found at the blog Splendid Pictures Around the Net. Check them out.

Unsung Designer Items I like

I found this site that features emerging indie designers from all over the world. I’m always on the look out for different items and new designers so this site was perfect for me. It is called unsungdesigners.com…lol. Here are some items from the site I liked:

The Pencil by AngelRox – ROX1031 $178.00

Ruched Skirt by Verrieres & Sako $175.00

Perception Ring by Tracey Beale – TBL1009 $98.00

Word Band by Loving Anvil – LOV1005 $38.00

Sometimes one simple little word can speak volumes! Or stack a couple of bands and put an extra spin on it: “genuine chingon!” “lucky rascal!” Choose the word or phrase that stirs your happy place. Sterling silver, hand-engraved.

Have a particular word you’d love to wear? Custom words–12 letters max–can be engraved for an extra $15.

Organic Circle Necklace by Avnon – AVN1000 $75.00

Clothing > Dresses – Pin Tucked Mini Dress by Ouvrez La Porte – OUV1001 $188.00

Lucky says Ouvrez La Porte is “both proper and sexy”… Time Out NY calls the designer “a cross between Audrey Hepburn sophistication and Siouxsie Sioux irreverence”…and InStyle says it’s “affordable glamour.”
This sleeveless dress is constructed from black silk charmeuse with a pintucked bib of black floral lace. It has an alluring a-line shape that skims the body and falls mid-thigh. Scalloped lace adorns the bottom hem and arm holes, and velvet ribbon and lace trim the collar. This dress is unlined and has a back zipper closure.

Balloon Dress by Harriet’s Alter Ego $150.00

The Wrap by AngelRox – ROX1009 $188.00

This is a different take on a wrap dress. Different in design and also because it is made of 100% bamboo jersey, a naturally anti-bacterial and renewable resource.

Solid Dress Coat by Verrieres & Sako – VNS1004 $312.00

Sheer Dress Coat by Verrieres & Sako – VNS1010 $342.00

Sheer dress coat is a beautiful addition to a dress or makes a simple slip dress a fab ensemble. Has 3/4 length sleeves. 100% silk organza; dry clean. Available in black (shown), grey or ivory.

Designers > Verrieres & Sako – Swirly Patch Blouse by Verrieres & Sako – VNS2004 $350.00

Overall I think the designers, AngelRox & Verrieres & Sako, are my two favorites.

Emmy 2007 Fashions – My favs and my not so favs

Ok so I’ll admit it, I didn’t watch the Emmys. I watched the before and after shows on E! TV to see who wore what and who won. I know not good but I was busy watching The 4400 & the Dead Zone on the USA Network.

In any case here is my review of my favorite part of the show 😉

My Favorite Dresses on the Ladies for the Emmys 2007:

Heidi Klum in Dior
I love the color and her hair and the jewlery and the slit in the dress. It all works for me.

Marcia Cross in Georges Chakra
Marcia is one of the rare people with this coloring that can get away with a dress of this color. I think it is the striking balance of her pale skin and red hair that does it for me. I like the neckline if the dress as well with the deep V and sheerness. I LOVe the chance she took with the turquoise earrings. It worked for me.

Rebecca Gayheart in Carlos Miele
I like the unusualness of the dress, the neckline especially. The color was very nice on her as well. And usually I don’t like matching accessories but the matching clutch bag works for me.

Teri Hatcher in Badgley Mischka
What more can I say? I LOVE Badgley Mischka and I LOVE Pink. She looked stunnning in this dress.

Katherine Heigl in Zac Posen
Again another what can I say? This dress is classic and beautiful. Zac Posen is one of those newish designers who just knows how to dress a woman.

Sarah Chalke in Monique Lhuillier
I LOVE Monique Lhuillier!. My favorite part of this dress is the back. The whole dress is unusual with the ruffles down the front but then she turns around and you see the back and it is like wowza! Sexy without being overtly so.

The Gentelman’s Outfits that I liked:

Denis Leary
I really like the silver tie with the single breasted black tux.

Neil Patrick Harris (with partner David Burtka) in a Prada suit
I know many do not like black on black but I like this look on Neil. It maybe the bit of shine on the collar of the jacket and the waistband of the pants. Of course having a cute BF next to him doesn’t hurt 😉

Eric Dane (with his Wife Rebecca Gayheart )
Eric just looks classic. James Bond like. The small bowtie and the slight salt and pepper hair all work for me. Again having a beautiful partner next to him doesn’t hurt.

Who together make one of my favorite couple of the nite. My other Favorite couple:

Ellen DeGeneres in a Gucci suit & Portia de Rossi in a Azzaro gown
I love both of their outfits. Many didn’t like Ellen’s necklace but it doesn’t bother me. I adored Portia’s dress and the necklace embellishment on it. I love the fact that her and Portia wore matching colors. Since both of those colors were dark navy, which was unusual and sophisticated, it worked for me.

The Women’s outfits I didn’t like:

Becki Newton J. Mendel strapless tulle mermaid gown
The color doesn’t work for me. Nor does the material and fluffy tiers. It is just all wrong to me. Maybe in a different color and without the waist peplum I might have liked it better but that is a big IF.

Hayden Panettiere in Marc Bouwer gown
Do I really have to say anything about why I don’t like this? OK if I must. The color is not good for her but the part I really don’t like is it is too big for her. Too much volume in the skirt. It swallows her up and makes her look pregnant. Did they need to save the cheerleader for another reason other than the world?;)…

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez gown
I like Narciso Rodriguez usually but I just don’t love this color. It just doesn’t work for me. I like the cut of the dress so maybe if it were in a different color.

Jenna Fischer in Zuhair Murad dress
OK the excuse for this dress was that she hurt her back and needed to be comfortable. I hurt my back and I understand having to be comfortable but I wouldn’t have worn this dress. The bow is awful as is the tan color with abstract splashes of gold. It doesn’t work for me.

Patricia Heaton
I don’t like the color or the cut of the dress. And I don’t like her dark nail polish with it. The only thing I kind of like are her earrings. I would have kept those and started the outfit from scratch.

Aida Turturro
This just looks like a bad prom or going to a wedding dress. It just doesn’t work for me at ALL. And don’t get me started on her hair….Ughhhhh

Gentleman’s outfits I didn’t like:

I have to admit this is probably no suprise and not original. I think we all agreed on this:

Terry O’Quinn
Hot Pink and a glittery tie…..Just WRONG!! Don’t these people have stylists they pay too much money to?

And here is a poll where you can register your favs and not so fav.

Neiman Marcus is having a sale. Here are some of each size (0-16) I like…..Most under $150

I was surfing the net and read that Neiman Marcus was having a sale. And you know how I love a sale. Most of the press on their sales was referring to the Beauty section because they had a lot of really great gifts with purchase. And not the usually crappy kind you get from department stores but some really nice gifts and full sizes of products. Also they were offering free shipping for orders over $150. How can you beat that?

So after I ordered some make-up I needed, I perused the sale section to look for dresses. I’ve been having a dress obsession lately as some of my previous posts can reveal.

Well I found some cool dresses. One I even purchased. But to be fair to all of you who read this I found some examples of dresses, one in each size from 0-16, for all of you. Ain’t that nice of me. It has nothing to do with my shopoholic tendencies 😉
